LOW SPEED VEHICLES
Whether you are on a beach vacation, planning a special event, or just looking to cruise around your neighborhood in style — our fleet of LSVs are street legal on all South Carolina roads up to 35 mph and can be driven at night, unlike golf carts.
In accordance with South Carolina’s code of law 56-2-100, an LSV is a 4-wheeled vehicle with speed attainable in 1 mile to more than 20 mph, but not more than 25 mph.
The low speed vehicle law restricts how Low Speed Vehicles may be operated: LSVs & luxury golf carts in nearly all 50 states allow LSVs, also called NEVs, can be operated on public roads where the speed limit is 35 mph or less. A low speed vehicle is a 4-wheel motor vehicle whose maximum speed is at least 20 mph but not more than 25 mph.
A golf cart can be titled as a Low Speed Vehicle with “Low Speed” as the body style if the top speed is 25 mph or less. Otherwise, the unit is titled as a regular vehicle with “Roadster” as the body style.
Like a golf cart, a Low Speed Vehicle may cross a primary highway at an intersection with a stoplight or crosswalk where the highway has posted a speed limit over 35 mph but it cannot travel along these highways or streets. LSVs can only be driven by a person sixteen or over with a valid driver’s license and have in his possession the registration from the DMV and proof of insurance.
An LSV is equipped with side view mirrors, horn, turn signals, seat belts, and DOT approved headlights and taillights for night driving.
